trikes like less trail than 2 wheelers. I am building a trike and trying to understand. does anyone know why?

We built a Brighton Bike Works trike with 45 degree rake, and it really needs a steering dampner. At speed it is really responsive and drives really nice, but at low speed and slow speed bumps, it wants to shake the front end. When we were setting it up, we contacted them and their answer was to really tighten the neck bearings to reduce the front end shake. Not a great answer. Since this trike only drives one rear wheel, it pushes and pulls the chassis under throttle and coast down. If you are using a differential rear end, you shouldn't see the push me, pull me as bad. I've never driven a service car before, so I don't have anything to relate it to. It does appear that these old service cars did have a pretty upright steering angle, but just like an old three wheel bicycle, you can put it up on two wheels without much effort! Good luck.

What type of steering damper did you use?
What rake was in the neck and what rake trees did you use?
What front wheel sizes are you running.

There are lots of variables that cause a wobble.

Tightening the steering stem bearings might work on a trike, but on a regular motorcycle it will turn a wobble into a weave.
